Funny, but drawn out.

I felt like it didn't really get good until the (first) breakdance sequence, then I really laughed. And while the animations were pretty crazy from there on, it felt too long. Maybe you should've changed the background a few times and used different viewpoints (close-up, a panning shot, zooms) to make the whole thing more dynamic. I laughed, but at many points I almost felt like closing the window and just casting my vote.

Open-sketchbook responds:

That's what happens when you do the whole song.

I could very well be wrong, but...

...is this really yours? Next to the e-mail info and site link not matching up with your profile, the movie's author appears to be Italian, and you do not (NathanSmith724@hotmail.com). Also, the resolution of the movie was entered wrongly (as can be seen during the 'binoculars' scene).

If I'm wrong I hope my review gets deleted, but I find this rather suspicious.

Valvageer responds:

It is my Flash That hotmail adress was just for me to make a new account :)

Damn nice... but the ending?

Wonderful style, I thought that slimy henchman looked particularly nice. A great mix of 2D and 3D graphics. It was pretty funny in places, though sometimes I couldn't quite understand what the character was saying... subtitles might've helped.

Why was the ending so abrupt, though? Did you run out of frames, or just out of time to finish it?

ry-goody responds:

Thanks. I meant the ending to be abrupt like that, but not in the way it turned out. I originally had alot of things planned for the cat vs mech sequence that would have made it more satisfying and the abrupt ending more excusable. But I did run out of time for those extra things.

I'm not the least bit familiar with CS, but...

...as much work as I imagine tracing those images must've cost, it all became rather static. The flipping gun at the beginning, the enemies just skipping from standing upright to lying down... kind of boring. Some blood would've helped. Other than that I agree with a previous reviewer that it would probably have been best to lay this aside for a while until you got new ideas, because I thought the concept of a 1st person movie wasn't bad.

ironbreath responds:

Hey, thanks. I appreciate the input, I see you made some good points about the ragged animation in the enemy deaths and the blood, I will take this into consideration next time I make a movie. Thanks for the review.

Hahaha.

Even though they all last so briefly, it's hilarious that someone actually puts those soundboards to use. I'll have to check out the others ones.

AntiClockClock responds:

Cool thanks for review!

Nice.

I'm pretty sure that "first Flash attempt" is either a joke or an unnecessary lie, but if it really isn't, take that as a compliment. Short, but fine work with nice music. Did you draw everything yourself, or did you perhaps get the weapons from someone else?

Carl-Smith-1821 responds:

no, I either drew or traced everything myself.

While it's loading...

...I'll take the chance two things before I see it. One, King of the Bongo is such a long song that you probably should've sliced it up a little in a sound editing program (like Sound Forge, to name one) to prevent it from getting boring to the average NG viewer. Two, seeing the filesize, I'm sure you just used the music as an event sound. Which is bad because not only does it push up the filesize, but the movie's animation will quickly fall behind on the music. In the sound panel, change "event" to "stream" and be sure the layer the music's on is stretched to the very end of the movie. Now your animation will keep up (as best as possible) with the music, and the filesize will be rigorously downsized, at the cost of some quality (but we can live with that).

Writing now while the movie's playing...

Uh... the character's mother reminds me of Barbara Bush. It's not that important, but shouldn't these characters be black or at least a little more dark-skinned? His dad's from the Congo, after all...

OK, the animation starts off well with an animated character, background and monkeys, but it rapidly gets more repetitive and animations are more frequently just duplicated. There's some imported photoshopped fonts that don't look so well in this context, a lot of nonsensical stuff that's not random enough to be funny and then...

...when the song's not even close to finished, you suddenly leap into a political statement and push an ad for your site in our faces, then you just let the last three minutes of the song run on a credit screen. I know it's a long song, but this way it just looks like you got bored with it with one-third finished. And that's a real annoying way to end it. If you're willing to go back in and change stuff, I'd say cut up the song till it fits better in your movie, set it to stream, take out the political statement and hold the ad for your site till the "end" screen.

Olisdragon responds:

uh first of all. it was barbara bush u retard....

Dammit, that Gummi Bears song...

So cheerful, yet addictive. Kind of funny, but way too short movie. You used a lot of music, but it raised the filesize to a point where I'd expect more. Like, Gummi Bears retaliating.

DjMitri responds:

yea... I am just learning flash really, This summer i should be able to make a longer flash... that one right there took me 2 days but i learnt alot from it

"tribute?"

Seems more like you're purposely trying to make a little internet squabble personal. This barely had anything to do with Livecorpse.

You won't find people more jaded anywhere than on the Internet. It's because the total anonimity lets you say anything you want without getting your ass kicked. If you're going to let a couple of people making fun of someone's suicide get to you, you might as well unhook your PC right now. You shouldn't care so much what other people think.

I'm a lot less shocked by people making fun of Livecorpse's death than of the people who give him their unconditional support. People've talked about the cop he shot like the guy deserves it (or worse, like getting crippled or dying), and they DON'T seem to be joking. I realize that Livecorpse may have been a loved Newgrounds author, but you can't judge anyone in real life by their personality online. Just because he was nice on NG doesn't mean he wasn't a seriously disturbed person in real life. And while I don't have the full details on his untimely end (partially in thanks to the senseless back-and-forth babble of people who will or won't take Livecorpse's death seriously), I'm at least smart enough to know that when a person shoots a cop and commits suicide three days later, there was a little more going on there than just bad luck.

scottmale24 responds:

Im not saying he didn't do anything bad. I'm just saying that some people REALLY PISS ME OFF. did you read the thing that says 'for the love of god read this'?

Well, at least one thing can be said.

At least you didn't try and make him out to be some kind of tragic loss/hero. I've no idea who he was other than that he apparently stabbed someone, shot a cop and then offed himself, which is why I'm puzzled that people are sad that he's gone. I mean, he doesn't sound like a very nice or sane person.

piconjopwnsj00 responds:

you don't know anything, he stabbed someone who was breaking into his place. he wasn't a tragic hero, he was just a great guy here on Newgrounds and everyone here who knew him will miss him because of who he was here.
